Viticulture: mildew affects severely the production

    • The wine production this year will experience a decline due to a disease called mildew (Plasmopara viticola), a microorganism that has infected much of the Algerian vineyard. This fungus, the most feared by winemakers was mainly caused by the recent rains that fell during the months of May and June. The lack of protection of production and technique followed by winemakers is also a factor that caused the development of the mildew that destroys the leaves and clusters. According to experts of the National Institute of Plant Protection (INPV), one can recognize the mildew from the upper side of leaves where yellowish spots appear called commonly oil stains.

    • Fastfood, creameries ...: Informal’s success at night

Avoid at all costs the tax inspectors. This is the main reason for traders to activate the night. The phenomenon confined to tea vendors, extends to fastfoods, creameries  and other fast food places. Many are not declaring their business taxes and raise the curtains on dusk.

Algiers has long dreamed of a night life, the informal vendors offer it willingly but with discretion. At nightfall, usually at 22:00, they open shops of selling sandwiches, creameries, and pancakes. Others offer squeezed juices or sorbets of all kinds. And these places are full.

In El Madania (commune in algiers wilaya ), they are more than a dozen in the majority specialized in the sale of sandwiches made from traditional breads (matlouaa). Very popular, the snack is sold  between 100 dinars and 250 dinars, according to the filling. For the simplest, it contains cheese, chicken paste and corn. Price may even exceed 300 dinars for each surplus of ingredient.
