Seizure of more than 146.000 euros at Algiers airport

According to the communication unit of the General direction of National Security (DGSN), elements of the 2nd Brigade of the border police have detained on Tuesday, September 04th at the international airport Houari Boumediene, a traveler who was leaving the country to Istanbul aboard a flight of Turkish Airlines.

 The excavation of this respondent resulted in the seizure of 146.900 euros well concealed in his luggage. This is the third seizure of its kind in a week,with the seizure of a record amount estimated at over one million euros from a 35years old trader, going to Turkey, during the same day,  over 42.000 euros that a women tried fraudulently to transfer to Turkey.

According to the General Direction of Customs, it’s services seized since the beginning of the year until September 2nd , 1.6 million euros, nearly 287.000 US dollars and nearly 18.000 Australian dollars at Algiers airport. The police and Customs foiled, during the first half of this year, a dozen illegal transfer attempts of currency abroad. These operations resulted in the seizure of more than 11 million euros, at the airports of Algiers, Oran, Constantine and border crossings. The bigest operation was carried out at border post of Betita in Tebessa where nearly 2 million euros have been seized , well hidden in the vehicle of a young. According to investigators of security services , turkey is the first concerned country by this traffic.
